FAQ

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the practice of using inserting fine needles into specific points on the body, used to bring balance back to your body's energy systems. All needles are sterile and single-use. This treatment send signals to help the body heal itself and regulate your qi.

Qi?

That's right, qi (pronounced CHEE like CHEESE). Qi is your energy, the life force inside of you, not unlike "The Force" from Star Wars.

How does it work?

The short answer is that acupuncture directs and augments the body's own ability to heal itself. In biomedical terms, it increases blood and lymph circulation to promote healing, decrease inflammation, reduce stress and anxiety, regulate organ function, and send signals to the brain to balance hormones and release natural painkillers.

Does it hurt?

Lucky for you, Dr. Callie is known for her gentle touch and calming energy. Acupuncture needles are very thin and flexible, about the size of a cat's whisker. Many people don’t feel the needles at all, and once they are inserted, you shouldn’t have any pain or discomfort.

What will I feel?

While many people don’t feel the needles at all during treatment, you may feel a heavy sensation, warmth, tingling, or a soft pressure. Acupuncture often leaves you with a heavy, dull sensation that helps put your body in a parasympathetic state, or "relaxing sleepy time", as it is known in the medical world.

How do I prepare?

Make sure to eat something a few hours beforehand, drink plenty of water, and wear comfortable clothes.

Can I bring my pet?

While Dr. Callie would love to meet your fur baby, she is not a vet and does not practice on animals.
